Meet the Director

Gabrielle Harvey Headshot.jpgDr. Gabrielle Harvey is a graduate of homeschool herself, and is familiar with doing schoolwork around the kitchen table with her siblings! She also has over twenty years experience as a violin and viola teacher in Iowa, Kansas, and Oklahoma. She has conducted young string ensembles and taught string orchestra sectionals in Kansas, Michigan, and Iowa, and loves helping young orchestra musicians reach their potential! Dr. Harvey holds a DMA in violin performance and pedagogy from the University of Iowa, where she studied with Katie Wolfe. She earned her Masters degree in violin at Wichita State University, where she worked closely with noted string orchestra pedagogue Jacquelyn Dillon. She also holds a BMA from the University of Oklahoma. Other violin teachers she has studied with include John Harrison, Felicia Moye, Christopher Wu, Dr. Gary Kosloski, Wayne Crouse, and Colbert Hackler. Dr. Harvey performs regularly as a member of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, and has played with ConcertIA, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, and the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. She has a passion for music history, and has many fun stories about violinists in the nineteenth century. (She can tell you which violinist appears in a Sherlock Holmes story, and which one got caught in a hotel fire in Iowa City.)
